coast to perform over the Cup Match Weekend.

"Diamonds in the Rough'' -- composed of Lloyd Holder, Ronnae Lowe, Cranston Warren, Ty-ron Douglas and Daniel Smith -- accepted an invitation from Doug Davis who was on vacation in Bermuda last summer to come to Delaware and put on a concert.

But the quintet will not be travelling alone. The Midland Heights Youth Choir which includes Granville Wilson, Julia Holder, Nicole Tucker, Sevonne Gibbons, Sarita Lowe, Sherri Smith and Monique Paul will also be performing.

"The choir has been together for almost two years, and the boys have been together for just over a year,'' Choir Director Deborah Lowe said. "I thought it was a good time for them to be exposed to other cultures and denominations to help them to grow spiritually.'' The musicians were to take time out to have some fun and shopping Thursday and Friday.

"Even though they will have some fun I don't want them to forget the purpose of the trip,'' Mrs. Lowe said.

"They will be practising all week, before and after daily activity.'' On the Saturday the Choir and the Quintet will be singing during the service at the Sharon Temple Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Wilmington Delaware. They will also put on a concert at the church in the evening.

And on Sunday they will put on a concert at a AME Church in Mount Laurel New Jersey.

Mrs. Lowe said she hoped the members of the choir would not only minister to others but also grow spiritually.

Diamonds in the Rough evolved from the Midland Heights Choir when director Mrs. Lowe found it difficult to teach the whole choir a new song for each performance.

The quintet caught on quickly and began performing at different concerts throughout the Island. They have song at the prisons, schools, weddings, and for Somers Lioness Club. They were featured at the Premier's Concert last year and made a guest appearance in the latest Gina Spence production "A Figure of Speech''.

To cover the expenses of the trip the choir held fundraisers and earned private donations.

Cranston Warren, the quintet's baritone, said, "We will perform to the best of our ability,'' he said. "I also hope the group will promote Bermudian musicians on a whole.'' ROUGH DIAMONDS -- (From left) Ronnae Lowe, Cranston Warren, Lloyd Holder, Ty-ron Douglas, and Daniel Smith.
