`Priestly brothers' installed as Canons of the Cathedral
During a solemn and spiritual service, two "priestly brothers'' were installed as Canons of the Bermuda Cathedral last Sunday.
Bishop of Bermuda the Rt. Rev. Ewen Ratteray, led a Service of Collation and Installation of Canon Thomas Nisbett as Canon Emeritus and Canon James Francis as Canon Capitular of the Anglican Cathedral in Hamilton.
Archdeacon the Ven. Arnold Hollis presented the pair to the Bishop, who prayed for God "to give to these His servants grace to perform aright the duties which appertain to this sacred trust''.
Bishop Ratteray added: "Mercifully behold these Your servants, Thomas and James, now called to this special work and ministry as Canons of the Cathedral of this Diocese; and so replenish them with the truth of Your doctrine, and adorn them with innocency of life that they may faithfully serve you in this Office.'' Both Canons promised to faithfully comply with the customs of the Cathedral, diligently perform their duties, and be ready to aid their brethren of the Cathedral with their best counsel.
After the Bishop laid his hands on both men's heads, the Canons were led to their individual stalls in the Cathedral.
"We assign you this stall, with all the rights and privileges of this Canonry which is yours,'' Bishop Ratteray said. "Seek diligently the spirit of wisdom and knowledge. Love your brethren. Be faithful in your ministry.'' Following the Collation and Installation Service, the congregation joined the Bishop, Canons and their families for a reception in the Cathedral Hall.
