Rachel's tale inspires faith
next month, one of 13 teenagers killed in the Columbine high school shooting in Colorado in 1999.
Rachel's father, Darrell Scott will tell the story of his daughter's faith in God, and how he hopes people will benefit from the tragedy at four events at the Southampton Princess from March 1 to 4.
The events are being organised by Discipleship Ministries, and Director Gary Simons spoke with The Royal Gazette recently about the upcoming event.
Mr. Simons said that the Discipleship Ministries holds Island wide seminars every year to promote Christ and the growth of spirituality among teens and adults.
The latest seminar will feature Darrell Scott, who has spoken to millions of people over the last year through television, radio, and in large gatherings of people.
He has been featured in Time magazine, Newsweek, Christianity Today, and many other publications around the world and has been interviewed by numerous people such as Oprah Winfrey, Larry King, Tom Brokaw, Leeza Gibbons, and many more.
He has met with former US president Bill Clinton and meets regularly with governors, senators and congressmen.
Mr. Darrell says that his most important meetings are with the young people of this nation, and his message is one of triumph out of tragedy.
In the four-day event, he will share writings from the numerous diaries that his daughter left behind as well as some of the untold stories of Columbine.
Rachel Joy Scott was killed by classmates on April 20, 1999, and her brother Craig was in the library that day and watched as 10 of his classmates were gunned down.
Rachel's parents have written a book entitled: "Rachel's Tears: The Spiritual Journey of Columbine Martyr Rachel Scott''. The book contains excerpts from her personal journals. In one passage Rachel chillingly foretells her death, and that of 12 other classmates.
A journal entry on May 2, 1998 says: "This will be my last year Lord. I have gotten what I can, Thank you.'' She also wrote that God was going to use her to reach young people, even though she didn't know how.
Mr. Simons said that Rachel had told her father that she would be an actress as well as perform ministry. She also said she would appear in Oprah.
In her death she fulfilled all of these premonitions.
Her picture was seen by countless millions, and her ministry was heard, and continues to be heard throughout the world.
Mr. Simons said that the taping of the Oprah show about Rachel had to be stopped many times as people were overcome with emotion and were breaking down in tears.
The book about the tragic killings at Columbine high school will be on sale at the four day event. For more information call 234 4400.
