Vernon gospel choir to perform
Paul AME Centennial Hall this month.
Under the chief patronage of Shadow Youth and Sport Minister Dr. Ewart F.
Brown, the 30-plus members of the choir will present a two-hour concert along with invited guest the Rev. Robert Lowe and his youth choir from Jamaica, New York.
Choir director Mrs. Georgette Prime-Godwin said the choir has been planning the August 12 concert -- entitled "Youth 'n Praise'' -- since December 13 last year when the choir sang in the Sounds of Blackness concert at White Hill Field.
Mrs. Prime-Godwin said the choir, which sings every fourth Sunday at Vernon Temple, had sung at numerous functions during the year. Its most recent performance was at Gospel Fest '95 last Saturday and PHC stadium in Warwick.
She said the Rev. Christopher P.L. Haynes, pastor of Vernon Temple, endorsed the concert and was behind the young people 100 percent.
Full accompaniment for the concert will be provided by Mr. Christopher Grant on the keyboard, Mr. Scarlet Thomas on the drums, and special guests saxophonists Mr. Neville Caines, Mr. Damon Hollis and bass player Mr. Troy Seymour In addition to the music, the concert will also include liturgical dancing.
Tickets for the concert are priced at $10 for adults and $7 for senior citizens and children under 12. They are available at the Christian Bookstore on Church Street. The choir will use the proceeds to purchase choir robes.
"This is a concert that shouldn't be missed,'' Mrs. Prime-Godwin said. "The concert is planned for two hours but if you (the public) want more we will give more.''
