Veteran priest dies at 87
87.
And this weekend, a special tribute will be paid to him at the 11.30 a.m.
Sunday Mass at St. Theresa's, Monsignor Theriault's former church.
Monsignor Theriault served twice in Bermuda -- between 1937 and 1939 at St.
Theresa's Cathedral before returning to Canada.
He came back to the Island in 1944 and stayed 11 years, serving as pastor at St. Theresa's.
A Catholic Church spokeswoman said: "Monsignor Theriault's priestly zeal and loving concern endeared him to all whose path crossed his.
"A special concern of his was the needs of the Portuguese people here. His efforts included trying to learn the Portuguese language and seeking a Portuguese priest to minister to them.
"He was truly loved by his parishioners at that time and his name is still revered among many older Bermudians.'' Monsignor Theriault last post was as chaplain to the Sisters of Charity -- who run Mount St. Agnes Academy -- at the Order's mother house in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
He was appointed chaplain to the mother house in 1984 and served there until he became ill recently.
Monsignor Theriault died on Sunday, March 22.
