Berlin's Jewish Museum expanding

BERLIN (AP) — Berlin's Jewish Museum is expanding to meet increasing demand for research and education.

The museum said Tuesday it will group its archives, library and education centre under one roof across the street from the zigzag-shaped main building designed by architect Daniel Libeskind.

The new building, built in the 19th century as a flower market, will undergo a US$12.7 million renovation under Libeskind's guidance that is expected to be done by the fall of 2011.

The education centre is currently in a separate building while the library and archives can only be accessed by registering in advance.

Some 100,000 are now using the research and education facilities — double the number than when it opened in 2001. The museum saw 755,000 visitors last year.

Rabbi returns to Roman Catholic college

ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Indiana (AP) — A rabbi who made headlines in 1963 by teaching at a Roman Catholic college in western Indiana has received an honorary degree from that school.

Rabbi Bernard Cohen, now 80, became a professor at the school in 1963, making him one of the first rabbis to teach at a Catholic college. The Los Angeles resident taught classes on Jewish culture and civilisation at the school until 1970.

During the May 9th commencement at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, school president David G. Behrs called Cohen "a trailblazer in higher education."
