Spinning Wheel is about to go undergo an epiphany as the battle for souls heats up.

Trinity Chapel Bermuda is launching their church at the Court Street nightspot tomorrow morning, explained pastor Jamaine Tucker.

The church's motto is "Get Connected – Be Effective!" And their aim is to reach individuals who simply won't attend unless someone is getting christened, married or has died.

Rev. Tucker also pointed out that some people have simply given up on the traditional church or lost faith.

He admitted that starting a church in a Court Street night club would raise some eyebrows.

"Why would a Bermudian Pastor who was raised and earlier mentored as a minister in a traditional Christian church, have the audacity to start a church in what has been historically known as a nightclub – Spinning Wheel Entertainment Complex?" he asked.

"Indeed, questions of this nature deserve a clear answer. Therefore, I'll answer two ways: One, why not? There's no place the church of Jesus Christ shouldn't go to add value to people's lives. Furthermore, Spinning Wheel just happens to be a great facility with visionary management.

"Two, God called the pastoral team of Trinity Chapel Bermuda to 'get connected – be effective' through the inspiration of a vision to demonstrate love, acceptance, and forgiveness (L.A.F./John 3:16) to friends in the marketplace/world, especially to those souls trapped in the margins of our community.

"Bishop Jim Bolin, Trinity Chapel Bermuda's senior pastor, and Trinity Chapel, Powder Springs, Georgia, are in agreement with this approach, and have given their full support," explained the cleric.

"While having dinner as a family at Jamaican Grill on Court Street more than two years ago, God gave specific instructions about where He was assigning us to begin – Court Street, between Dundonald and Angle Streets, Hamilton," he said.

"A few months ago, we began pursuing a facility within the assigned boundary that made 'common sense' given limited choices only to have that plan reveal what we believe now is God's plan.

"Lesson: God's sense is never common! As much as we intend to enjoy fellowship with other faith leaders and church families, our heart's passion is to get connected and be effective in the marketplace where the presence of God is often not recognised or appreciated.

"Thinking of this disconnect, reminds me of a story I heard Bishop Bolin share not long ago about a man who was being talked about offensively by his religious family as though he wasn't even present or listening.

"His daring wife says, 'My husband wouldn't go to church even if Jesus descended from heaven and invited him.'

"This time her husband replies: 'Don't get it twisted; Jesus I love, but it's some of his so-called followers that I have a problem with!'

"Hm, what a serious indictment on the church!"

He added: "We believe that God's true church was established through the sacrifice of His only son Jesus, to major in helping people who struggle often or periodically with setbacks, pressures and uncertainties of life, but earnestly desire to become all that God purposed when He first created them by His spirit.

"God's true church is also a gathering of spirit-filled believers benefiting from meaningful, purpose-driven relationships and who enjoy walking-out biblical principles for life that yield generous measures of blessing.

"The relationship, not religious, paradigm creates a confidence level in people to become more open-hearted to honour God by loving and accepting His son Jesus, as Lord and Saviour."

The Pastoral Team of Trinity Chapel Bermuda is committed to reaching people to join this visionary family of tens of thousands of people in several countries, like the man in the story, with Love, Acceptance, and Forgiveness (L.A.F.)., Rev. Tucker said.

"By this, we allow God to work on his heart, as our own, to L.A.F. at people who misrepresent and entitle themselves followers of Jesus Christ," he said.

"No follower of Jesus can change any person the way God can; instead, we're most qualified for God to use us when we love! We are laying a demand on a fresh release of the power or love of God to meet people where they are without judgment – after all, God is the judge, but He's an even greater lover of our souls!"

The vicar added that it wasn't more than a year ago that God led him to revisit some chapters of a book entitled 'Prayer Evangelism' by Argentine native Ed Silvoso.

"The author explains that the church, followers of Jesus Christ, has a responsibility, 'not to take a community, but give itself to the community' that the Kingdom and character of God would be established," he said.

"It's a reciprocal biblical principle: 'give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.' (Luke 6:38)"

The core belief of the pastoral team of Trinity Chapel Bermuda is to explore new techniques of sharing the timeless message of Jesus Christ.

"Even if it means risking being misunderstood and offensive to those who may unfairly judge," said the rector.

"People don't need to be told they're messing up, as much as they need to be loved into doing better. We simply want to add value to people's lives, just as value has been added to ours; less judging, more lovin'!

"This is what getting connected and being effective is all about. The Message Bible puts it this way, 'great gifts mean great responsibilities; greater gifts, greater responsibilities!' (Luke 12:48)

"We are proud of our connection with management of Spinning Wheel Entertainment Complex, and look forward to taking this journey together to explore what God will do through our relationships with friends, the church, marketplace and nation of Bermuda.

"We're not compromising, but actualising the great commission!"
