Cedar Hill Salvation Army to stage first Christmas fair

Getting ready: members of the Cedar Hill Salvation Army preparing for today’s Christmas fair

If you are looking for a family-friendly event that promises a good time and aims to give back to the community, look no farther than the Cedar Hill Salvation Army.

The organisation is to launch its first ever Christmas fair today. Their hope is that the entire island will turn out and enjoy it.

The fair will take place on the grounds of the Salvation Army church on Cedar Hill in Warwick. Residents are invited to stop by and enjoy a variety of games, activities, and much more.

Crystal Holdipp, the church's newly appointed public relations representative and event marketer, said: “It’s going to be an excellent time for the entire family. Community members can expect to be immersed in a fun, fair atmosphere.”

There is likely to be something that will appeal to family members of all ages.

“The Christmas fair will consist of games, activities, fun castles, face painting, bumper cars, and a silent auction. There are going to be different activities; they are going to have over ten vendors,” Ms Holdipp said.

Among the items on offer in the silent auction are a microwave, a toaster, gift baskets and candles.

“There will be different games and activities for all ages; there will be a lot for the kids. It’s a family affair to bring everybody out to have a good time and to help them raise funds to help their community,” Ms Holdipp added.

Free school supplies will be handed out. Funds raised will help the church in its “sponsor a child” initiative through which a financial contribution is made towards the child’s daily needs and education.

Food stalls will sell traditional fair items such as baked goods, glass candy and cotton candy; homemade soup and rolls will also be on sale.

The fair falls in line with the Salvation Army’s reputation of meeting community need, Ms Holdipp said.

“Salvation Army is known for giving. The purpose of the fair is to give and help those in need. One of the things they will be doing with this is to raise funds for their women’s ministry and to provide spiritual, emotional and educational programmes for women.”

The Cedar Hill Salvation Army is looking forward to seeing the community gather to support their initiative and have a good time doing so. Their hope is that the fair becomes an annual event, one of many creative and fun ways for them to serve their community.

The Cedar Hill Salvation Army Christmas Fair takes place at 39 Cedar Hill, Warwick from 1pm to 6pm. Admission is free.
