Doubts surround fitness of points leader Haaland
Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United face tricky away matches in the Premier League this weekend against Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and Brentford respectively.
With players for those teams perhaps unlikely to rack up huge points, Fantasy League managers will likely switch their attentions to Manchester City and Tottenham, who are playing at home against Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers respectively.
Erling Haaland, who has 11 more points than any other forward in the competition, picked up a minor back injury against Arsenal last week and is listed as having a 75 per cent chance of being fit for the game. Pep Guardiola could consider resting him with away matches coming up against Monaco in the Champions League and Brentford in the Premier League next week.
Heading into the final matchweek of September, Adriano Rymon-Lipinski tops the standings in the overall competition with his “King Kev” team. However, he used his free hit last week.
Saturday
Brentford v Manchester United (8.30pm)
Brentford are unbeaten at home this season, drawing with Chelsea and beating Aston Villa twice, in the league and in the Carabao Cup on penalties. It is a case of the team being better than the sum of its parts in this competition, with their highest scorer, Dango Outtara, having scored just 17 points.
Casemiro is banned for this game after being sent off for Manchester United against Arsenal last week. Matheus Cunha came on as a substitute in that game and is likely to play but, as ever, it is Bruno Fernandes who tops their point standings and he was named in this competition’s team of the week.
Prediction: 1-2
Chelsea v Brighton & Hove Albion (11am)
Two teams difficult to get a handle on this season. Despite being sent off last week, Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez is eligible to play, with his one-match ban served against Lincoln in the Carabao Cup in midweek. Cole Palmer’s season has not really got going yet and he is rated as having a 75 per cent chance of playing after coming off with a groin injury last week.
Brighton are unbeaten in three home Premier League games, but have lost on the road to Everton and Bournemouth. They have only two players worth focusing on in terms of this competition in midfielders Yankuba Minteh (26pts) and Kauru Mitoma (18pts)
Prediction: 2-1
Crystal Palace v Liverpool (11am)
The only unbeaten teams left in the Premier League meet at Selhurst Park. Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike is banned after picking up a second yellow card for taking his shirt off on scoring the winning goal in their midweek match in the Carabao Cup.
Palace forward Ismaïla Sarr has a good chance of making his return after missing a couple of games through injury. Along with captain Marc Guéhi, he is the team’s standout performer
Prediction: 1-1
Leeds United v Bournemouth (11am)
Leeds are yet to concede a goal at home after beating Everton 1-0 and drawing 0-0 with Newcastle in their two games at Elland Road. With three defenders scoring more than 20 points and midfielder Anton Stach the sixth-highest scoring midfielder in the competition, there is value to be found in their team.
Bournemouth have lost only once in the league, away at champions Liverpool. Antoine Semenyo remains the best midfielder with 41 points after three goals and two assists in five matches.
Prediction: 1-1
Manchester City v Burnley (11am)
Fantasy managers will be queueing up to include City players this week, with goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, midfielder Tijjani Reijnders and, of course, Erling Haaland likely to be hugely popular recruits.
Burnley are without a win in five matches, including a shock defeat by lower-division Cardiff City in the Carabao Cup. Midfielder Jaiden Anthony is their star man with an impressive 34 points, but he may struggle to add to that tally this week.
Prediction: 3-0
Nottingham Forest v Sunderland (1.30pm)
Ange Postecoglou is still waiting for his first win as Forest’s head coach, although his side came close in a 2-2 draw with Real Betis in the Europa League group stage on Wednesday. Striker Igor Jesus scored twice in that game and is pushing Chris Wood for the No 9 role.
Sunderland are yet to win away from home this season, but Robin Roefs is the division’s third-best goalkeeper with 29 points from the opening five games.
Prediction: 2-0
Tottenham Hotspur v Wolverhampton Wanderers (4pm)
Only West Ham have conceded more goals than Wolves, and their defence is likely to be heavily tested again here. Xavi Simons has caught the eye on a couple of occasions since joining the club and is worthy of consideration when it comes to transfers.
Wolves’ struggles have translated into this competition, with their lack of goals and clean sheets meaning none of their players have gained more than 12 points.
Prediction: 2-0
Sunday
Aston Villa v Fulham (10am)
Aston Villa have scored just once in the league, in a 1-1 draw last week against Sunderland, who played with ten men for more than an hour. With Villa’s technical director, Monchi, leaving the club in midweek, there is plenty of instability behind the scenes but their fans will expect a win here.
Fulham have done well to sit eighth after the first five games and have lost just once away to Chelsea. Alex Iwobi is again their best performer with 26 points, while defender Joachim Anderson is on 21.
Prediction: 1-1
Newcastle United v Arsenal (12.30pm)
It’s one in and one out for Arsenal, with Martin Odegaard expected to return but Noni Madueke, who has impressed since joining from Chelsea, is out for a few weeks.
Fabian Schär, who has picked up 23 points for Newcastle in defence, is likely to miss this game after suffering a concussion against Barcelona a couple of weeks ago. Yoane Wissa remains out. Eddie Howe’s side are struggling for goals, with just three in five league games, but new signing Nick Woltemade has shown promising signs in his first couple of starts for the club.
Prediction: 0-1
Monday
Everton v West Ham United (4pm)
West Ham travel to the team coached by their former manager, David Moyes, needing to defend better from set-pieces. They conceded another goal from a corner in the defeat by Crystal Palace last week and have the worst defensive record in the division. Tomas Soucek is still serving a suspension.
Everton have two decent creative players in Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye, while defender James Tarkowski, a candidate to score this week, and goalkeeper Jordan Pickford are also among the highest scorers in their respective categories.
Prediction: 2-1
