Naude leads locals in NY
Evan Naude ran a sub-three hour marathon as one of 28 runners from Bermuda taking part in last Sunday’s New York Marathon.In a race field of around 45,000 competitors, the triathlon specialist came home 632nd overall in a time of two hours, 54 minutes and 14 seconds.Naude went through the halfway point in an impressive 1.17.56, but his pace slowed in the closing stages of the famous 26.2-mile road race.Two Island runners who got close to the three-hour benchmark were Andrew Hunt and Geoff Blee, who finished the race in 3.02.05 and 3.06.41 respectively.There were good performances from marathon veteran Manuel Lopes, who clocked 3.19.48 and Spencer Conway who stopped the clock at 3.26.22.Among the women from the Island, Inger Johanne Mesna impressed with a time of 3.47.08, which just gave her the edge over Carla Colbourne, in 3.50.59, Angela Marie Sarah Bell (3.53.12), Paula Few (3.53.31), Martina Olcheski-Bell (3.54.20) and Gemma O’Brien (3.55.23).Other Bermuda finishers: Emily Dunne 3.59.56, Stephen Dunkley 4.05.50, Wesley Dupont 4.27.41, Sarah Berlis 4.31.09, Scott Watson-Brown 4.31.18, Carol Griffith 4.31.46, Salvatore Cantarella 4.36.26, Johannes Roux 4.41.45, AJ Voykovich 4.46.25, Tim Hulse 4.48.14, Mhairi Donaldson 4.56.01, Susan La Touche 4.57.02, David McHugh 4.57.41, Shiona Turini 5.01.04, Philip Littlewood 5.08.51, Frank Schmidt 5.14.11, Catherine Farnworth 5.21.09, Phillip Faries 5.27.40, Sharon Dublin 5.40.31.
