Renegades end season on a high

Renegades ended their season on a winning note with a comfortable 34-13 victory over Police in the final of the Nicol Shield on Saturday.

Callum Maule, Tom Healy, Jahan Cedenio and Pete Dunkerly all scored tries in the win, with Brian Archibold kicking four conversions and two penalties.

Police, who won the competition last year, scored tries through Roedolf van der Westhuizen and Mike Halbert, with Mike Kane kicking a penalty.

In the women’s Scully Cup final a try in extra time from Gina Newson gave Mariners a 3-2 win in an enthralling encounter with Police.

Mariners twice had to come from behind, with Deneika Borden’s score cancelling out Karen Coetzee’s try for Police. Jo Godfrey put Police back in front with a breakaway effort, and Shara Crunden went over to send the game into sudden death.

Newson’s try sealed the win for Mariners, who finished the season unbeaten.
