Gayle Lindsay and David Lunn win Swan’s Legends Series

Gayle Lindsay continued event dominance

There was one familiar champion and one unfamiliar name crowned in the Swan’s Running Club Legends Series on Sunday.

Gayle Lindsay was crowned queen of Bermuda’s roads for a seventh straight year after blitzing to victory in the final leg of the series, the Stanley Burgess 5k, and again underlined her dominance by winning all four events in this year’s competition.

Lindsay won the women’s race on Sunday in 18min 19sec to add the contest named after the oldest man to win the Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby to victories in the Ed Sherlock 8k, Ray Swan 8k and Ludwig Cann 10k.

There was a startling similarity to the results in the women’s Legends Series with Lindsay winning all four legs and Teresa Ruiz and Stepanka Sprincova finishing second and third respectively in every race.

“I had my sights set on winning the legends title again this year for the women, and I'm delighted to have achieved that goal,” Lindsay said.

“I'd like to say thanks to Swan's running club for the great work they continue to do in organising the series.

“It’s hard to believe that we're only a few weeks away from May 23. The Bermuda half marathon is always a highlight in the racing calendar and I'm super excited to be taking part again.”

While there were no shocks in the destination of the women’s title, the absence of some of the island’s leading male runners for at least two of the races ensured that David Lunn was crowned male Legends Series champion.

Lunn (17:14) finished third in the Stanley Burgess 5k behind race winner Trey Simons (16:01) and Thomas Mills (16:47). He occupied the same finishing position in the Ludwig Cann 10K and the Ray Swan 8k after ending the Ed Sherlock Race in eighth place.

The two winners each receive a $1,000 cash prize and will likely be in action in the Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby later this month
