Bermuda runners take part in Sydney marathon
Six intrepid distance runners from Bermuda were part of more than 35,000 participants in the Sydney Marathon on Sunday morning.
Marcello Ausenda, Anna Laura Hocking, Gabriela Martin, Kyle Smith, Kevin Davies and Colm Homan completed the 26 miles in Australia in an event that has recently been declared the seventh world major marathon, joining Boston, New York, London, Chicago, Berlin and Tokyo
The day proved special for all the Bermuda runners, who received a ‘seventh star’ for completing all of the major marathons.
Hocking was also given the ‘7 continents medal’ for finishing a marathon in all seven continents, becoming the second person from Bermuda to complete the feat after Mark Harris completed the First Light marathon in New Zealand in January.
Hocking claimed bragging rights among the Bermuda contingent by crossing the line in 3hr 46min 38sec, with Homan finishing in 3:59:25, Ausenda in 4:13:34, Martin in 4:14.29, Davies in 5:12.30, Smith in 5:28.08.
Karla Bruning, the co-owner of Cambridge Beaches resort, also competed and finished with a time of 4:53:29
