Jackson Langley and Dylan Eiselt have been identified as the top contenders in the open division for the Aon Mixed Team Relay National Championship tomorrow at Clearwater Beach in St David’s.

The budding triathletes, who have had a great season in their individual races, are combining forces to take on other teams in the 11+ age groups. Competitors in this category have to negotiate a 300m swim, 8km bike ride and 2km run.

Bermuda Triathlon Association president Steven Petty indicated that while Langley and Eiselt were favourites, there were other teams that could challenge them.

“In the open division, first across the line should be Jackson Langley and Dylan Eiselt,” Petty told The Royal Gazette.

“Another good team would be Gianluca Bortoli and Jasper Lau. Lucas Bule and Sanchez Smith, Ethan Smith and Spencer Haldeman, Jens Drea and Jacob Leclerc, those are the other teams to look out for in the open.

“In the female, Christine Dailey and Kristen Robinson are the favourites. Not to be left out are Zara Bule and Riana Robinson.

“One of the younger teams, Colette Durkin and Evelyn Fahy, should do well. We also have Sofia Leclerc and Isla Cooze.

“In the corporate division, the team from AIG, which is Maddie Durkin and Mike Evans, would be favourites.

“In the family division, we have Ryan and Esme Davidge. There’s also Andrew and Carter Davis.

“In the mixed teams for 11+, I think Ronan Davidge and Elena Bortoli should take it.”

The proceedings start with the 7 to 10 division, where the competitors have to swim 100m, ride 4km and run 1km.

“In the junior 7 to 10, the favourites would be Nolan Horrobin and Niklas Bock,” the BTA president said.

“In the mixed 7 to 10, we have Chloe Durkin and Elliot Davidge. I just can’t see anybody that jumps out in the junior female and the junior family doesn’t have an entry yet.”

Petty said that while numbers as of Friday were lower than last year, registration was open until the morning of the race.

“At this point we have 85 people entered, last year we ended up with 102,” Petty said.

“This is the first year for Aon sponsoring it. We should remember that Aon sponsored the national sprint championships for about 15 years.

“Aon has a lot of employees that are keen triathletes too, so I think it works well to have them on board as sponsors.

“They have a new CEO Nick Moore who’s really keen to get back into triathlon. He thought that this event is quite family-oriented and with all the various categories, it’s short distances but everybody has fun.

“It’s great for the 11+ to compete against the adults. The distances are what the youngsters compete in most of the time and it’s good that the race takes place on the young people’s turf.

“How this is structured is that one person does the full super-sprint, hands over the chip to the next person in the team, who also does the same.”
