Aon ramps up sponsorship of triathlon events
Aon Bermuda chief executive officer Nick Moore has spoken of the reasons behind his company’s resumption of sponsorship of leading triathlon events in Bermuda.
Speaking at the end of the Aon Mixed Team Relay National Championship at Clearwater Beach last Sunday, Moore highlighted The Royal Gazette’s reportage as playing a part in the company’s decision when it was seeking a sporting event to bankroll.
It was through The Royal Gazette’s publicity that Moore, who returned to Bermuda in 2025 after spending a number of years in America, got to read about the triathlon exploits of Aon staff’s family members.
Seamus Durkin, Ryan Davidge, Christina Friend and Conor McGlynn are a part of the global company’s employees with their children heavily involved in sport on island.
“What actually attracted me to sponsor this was that I kept reading in The Royal Gazette about a number of my employees’ children performing very well at triathlon events,” Moore said.
“It was as a result of that and also pushing some of their parents as some of them are competitors. I thought as we had so many family members of Aon who are successful triathletes, we should be involved in sponsoring a triathlon competition.
“We used to sponsor a sprint triathlon and we haven’t done that for a few years. When I came back I asked why we’re not sponsoring it and then I met with the Bermuda Triathlon Association and we committed to sponsoring this event.”
Following the successful hosting of the mixed team relay championship, in which 90 participants competed, Moore indicated that they have made a decision to continue with the sponsorship package.
“We had a very successful event and we are committing to sponsor the event next year,” he said.
“As long as we have people wanting to participate, we’ll continue to sponsor the event.
“I like the fact that this brought out people from all ages. Families, corporate teams, friends, people who have competed for many years and those doing it for the first time.”
