Somersfield Academy 5K Fun Run promises to be bigger and better
Custom medals have been introduced for the second Somersfield Academy 5K Fun Run tomorrow, which promises to be bigger than the first edition.
According to the race organisers, the medals were made available by a family who are deeply rooted in the island’s sporting community. The event will feature a 5K run/walk, a one-mile run, and a 400-metre dash for younger participants, ensuring that every age and fitness level has a way to join in.
“Building on the success of last year’s event, which drew nearly 300 participants, this year introduces a new highlight: custom Somersfield medals for top finishers,” the race organisers said.
“These medals were generously sponsored by an anonymous founding family with deep ties to Bermuda’s sporting community.”
In preparation for the race, Somersfield has also welcomed dedicated parent volunteers, Jo-Rena Davis and Vivienne Lochhead, as the new volunteer co-ordinator and race director, respectively.
Davis, who has combined her love of running with her commitment to giving back, spoke of how her desire to assist was sparked by taking part in the race a year ago.
“Our family had such a great time participating last year that I knew I wanted to help make it happen again,” she said.
“The Fun Run is about more than just running; it’s about coming together as a school and as a community to support our students.”
David Lunn, a Somersfield alumni and event organiser, said: “The Fun Run reflects the best of Somersfield.
“Families, alumni, local businesses and volunteers coming together for the benefit of our students. We’re grateful to everyone who has stepped forward to ensure this year’s event is even more memorable.”
Somersfield has offered appreciation to all those that have contributed to ensuring the success of the second edition.
“This year’s Fun Run is made possible through the generosity of local businesses and community members who have stepped up to support the event,” the school said.
