Erica Hawley completed an Australian adventure with her family by finishing 28th in the World Triathlon Challenge Series on Sunday.

Hawley, who was on hand in Wollongong to see her mother, Julia, finish fifth in the Aquabike World Triathlon Age-Group Aquabike Championships on Thursday, was hoping for a good performance despite a recent injury sustained when crashing on her bike during training.

The triathlete exited the water 31st of the 39 competitors after completing the 1.5km swim in 20min 11sec. She then tackled the 40km bike leg in 1:02:35 before running the final 10km run in 37:38.

Hawley’s overall time was 2:01:38, just under five minutes behind Lisa Tertsch, of Germany, who won the race in a time of 1:56:50. Bianca Seregni, of Italy, finished second with Frenchwoman Emma Lombardi in third.
