Gayle Lindsay returns to Bermuda for Butterfield Mile
Former Bermuda resident Gayle Lindsay is returning to the island for the Butterfield Invitational Mile next Friday.
Lindsay, the three-times Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby champion, will form part of the field of 19 female elite runners on the night, alongside her twin sister, Katrina. Last year, when she was still residing on the island, the 36-year-old finished eighth of 17 competitors.
The top three runners from last year, winner Anna Vess, runner-up Ellie Stevens and third Gina McNamara are part of the line-up, while also in contention are local runners Rose-Anna Hoey, Meghan Diel and Tereza Ruiz.
Three-times winner, Bermudian Dage Minors, will not be taking part in the race this year but his training partner Ben Claridge heads into the elite race with a strong chance.
The Briton won the Invitational at the first attempt a year ago, ahead of American Danny Cosgrove, who is again fighting for the title this time around.
Ryan Outerbridge, Sean Trott, Kallan Richardson and Adam Prunty are the local competitors in the field of 15.
In the adult local males, the competition is expected to be between David Lunn, Philip Woollins, Numair Khan and Oliver Brunnock.
Carina Bortoli had qualified with the best time for the adult local females but will not be running as she has gone back to university abroad. This leaves Catherine Power, Ashley Thompson, Megan Berry, Stepanka Sprincova and Mae Tirfe as favourites.
After the elite and adults have had their turn, the junior races will take centre stage, where a huge number of up-and-coming runners are expected to hit Front Street for what promises to be competitive races.
