Road running returns to popular West End course
Cambridge Beaches has teamed up with Swan’s Running Club to celebrate fitness, community and the continued growth of sporting events in Bermuda’s West End with the launch of the Cambridge Classic 5/10K Challenge.
The inaugural event will take place on Sunday and brings renewed energy to a West End course long remembered by Bermuda’s running community as one of the island’s best opportunities for fast times.
Known for its flat profile and scenic surroundings, the route travels towards the historic Royal Naval Dockyard and back, making it ideal for competitive runners pursuing personal bests, as well as walkers and recreational participants looking to enjoy a beautiful morning in Somerset.
Swan’s Running Club secretary Marla Smith is “thrilled” see the West End course back online.
“The West End route was always a favourite among runners because it offered the chance to achieve personal best times on a relatively flat course,” she said.
“We are thrilled to see that experience return through the inaugural Cambridge Classic and look forward to welcoming both competitive athletes and community participants.”
Cambridge Beaches general manager Clarence Hofheins is delighted to partner with Swan’s Running Club and hopes to see more community sporting events in the West End in the future.
“At Cambridge Beaches, we are always interested in creating opportunities for community sporting events, from our triathlon to now this road race,” he said.
“We would love to see more events take place in Somerset and this inaugural race is a meaningful way to help bring that vision to life.”
The upcoming event includes the 10K run, 5K run, 5K competitive walk race and 5K non-competitive run/walk.
