Top ten finish for Kirklands

Jesse and Zander Kirkland found their form at the ISAF Sailing World Cup in Palma, Spain, moving up to 53rd in yesterday’s standings. The Bermuda brothers, competing in the 49er class of the Silver Fleet, had finishes of 22, 23, 21 and 6 their first top ten finish in a Grade 1 race in Europe.Zanders said: “It was our first top 10 at a Grade 1 in Europe. In the afternoon’s racing, we had a steady sea breeze of 8-12 knots and we found a good tune.“We found that with more bend in our rig, we were able to point higher and still hold onto our speed.“It was a long day, with four races, but we are happy that we improved through the day and proved we have the gumption to battle with the best in the world.“In our great race, we were up with the cream of the fleet and it was so refreshing to play with them.“It is amazing how much easier life gets when you get out in front of the pack.“Lesson learned, it is still a basic sail boat racing and those guys are human too.“We were able to play shifts and make gains on them on both the upwind and downwind.”
