Roed claims ‘A’ Series title

Norwegian skipper Jan Petter Roed clinched the ‘A’ Series in the International One Design (IOD) during day three of the 2013 Bacardi International Invitational Race Week (BIIRW) in the Great Sound yesterday.

Roed and crew posted three bullets in breezy conditions to overhaul overnight leader Giles Peckham and lay claim to the ‘A’ Series title.

Peckham fell off the pace after posting a sixth, third and seventh.

After discarding their worst result at the end of the sixth race Roed led Peckham by a two-point margin.

Clinching the BW Walker Memorial Cup in the J-105s were joint skippers Trevor Boyce and Michael Nash by three -points over nearest rival Chuck Millican.

Boyce and Nash managed four bullets during the nine race series and finished no lower than third. James MacDonald rounded off the podium finishers in the J-105s that returned to BIIRW this year following a one-year absence.

Mark Watson III leads the Etchells fleet after nine races and one drop. Watson posted two bullets and a fourth that enabled him to replace overnight leader Will Thompson at the top of the leader board.

Watson currently has a two-point lead over Thompson and Tim Patton who is making his 40th consecutive appearance in BIIRW this year.

Sean Evans leads the Laser fleet after seven races and one drop. Evans posted two bullets and a fourth to leapfrog overnight leader Malcolm Smith who he leads by four points.

Sarah Lane Adderley managed a first, third and ninth to remain third in the 16-boat Laser fleet.

Sunday saw the team of Stevie Dickinson and Pat Young successfully defend their BIIRW title in the Comets while youngsters Chase Cooper (Gold Fleet) and Jay Hall (Silver Fleet) won their respective divisions in the Optimist fleet.

This year marked the first time Optimist sailors have appeared in BIIRW.
