Evans claims Laser title

Sean Evans was crowned champion in the Laser during day six of Bacardi Bermuda International Invitational Race Week (BIIRW).Evans (16) completed the 12 race series seven points clear of nearest rival Malcolm Smith (23) after discarding his worst two scores with Brett Wright (40) finishing further adrift in third.The promising sailor was by far the most consistent in the Great Sound all week, underlining his supremacy with nine podium finishes that included seven bullets.Meanwhile, co skippers John Burnham and Peter Rugg currently top the International One Design (IOD) fleet in the ‘B’ Series. However the pair trail ’A’Series winner Giles Peckham by nine points in the overall series for the Vrengen Gold Cup.Racing has been completed in the Etchells fleet. However, the eventual winner of the KF Trimingham Trophy could not be determined at press time due to an ongoing protest.Provisional results show William Thompson as the leader at the completion of the 12 race series followed by Mark Watson III and Tim Patton in second and third respectively.Earlier this week the team of Stevie Dickinson and Pat Young retained their BIIRW title in the Comets while youngsters Chase Cooper (Gold Fleet) and Jay Hall (Silver Fleet) reigned supreme in the Optimist dinghy.
