Blazers will bounce back, says Simmons
Skipper Angelo Simmons is adamant Boulevard Blazers' shock exit to the hands of Prospect United in the FA Cup will have no bearing on how their league campaign pans out.
Blazers lost to First Division side Prospect 3-1 at home Sunday in what was the surprise result of the day.
While the defeat sees Boulevard with nothing to play for but the league, Simmons insists Blazers will bounce back to achieve their survival target.
“It was a bad result for the club but we also have a lot of players out with injuries and so forth at the moment, so we have to look ahead and just get on with the job at hand,” said Simmons. “Right now things aren't going the way we want them to go, but we just want to stay up and get ready for the next season and get ourselves sorted out.
“Prospect was a hard game in the fact that we made it hard with all the chances we squandered and really only have ourselves to blame, but it is the FA Cup and that's how things go sometimes.
“We are trying to build something and our main objective, which was to stay up, is still our main goal.”
The treatment table at Blazers is a busy place at the moment, with Simmons, along with Jason Davis, Ajani Gibbons, Mel Gibbons just a few of the names carrying knocks.
Sitting four points above the drop zone gives the side a little bit of breathing space, but they will need to be wary of those below them as they soon face Somerset Eagles, Devonshire Colts and Southampton Rangers in potential six-pointers.
Regardless of the off-field sitdrama that has gone on at the club in recent times, their captain issued a stern warning to those who think the club are doomed for relegation.
“The loss on Sunday won't have any bearing on us going forward. We are going to keep training during the break, try and get a few games to keep active and look to hit the ground running in the second half of the season,” he said. “That game was a blow to us in terms of looking to make a run on the major cup, but it won't have any bearing on how we go about our business in the new year. Any other day we would have gotten past Prospect, but credit to them, they got the job done and we were left ruing our opportunities.”
