Ming: Title race will go down to the wire

Damon Ming believes Dandy Town are beginning to find their form at the right time following their 5-1 thrashing of Somerset Eagles last weekend. The emphatic win keeps Town within touching distance of league leaders North Village who are four points ahead of them with five games remaining. And with top two Village and PHC still to play each other, Ming is hopeful the title chase will go down to the wire.“Traditionally we have been a second half team and it is starting to be one of those seasons where it will come down to the wire,” said the winger.“We know what needs to be done but it isn’t in our hands, but anytime (Village) slip up we have to be ready to pounce on it and close the gap.“Every game has to be played to its merit and we are looking to continue playing well from game to game because every team has their own fight on their hands, whether it be relegation or title challenges, so we just need to focus on our game plan and execute it.”Ming said Hornets’ win over Eagles at White Hill Field last Sunday had served as a confidence booster as the business end of the season approaches.“It was a good game against Eagles, we started slow and went behind but showed the character to get the win and keep up with the leaders,” he said.“We knocked the ball around well, moved for one another and in the end it was a good result.“We know what needs to be done in the run in, we are behind and every game until the end counts.”Hornets, who will be competing in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Championships next month, take on St. George’s at the Wellington Oval on Sunday.
