Richardson inspires Zebras to victory

Boulevard 0 PHC 4Skipper Robert Richardson led by example when he scored twice and gave a sterling performance at centre-back yesterday to help PHC secure second place in the Premier Division. At BAA Field, Richardson’s team frustrated Boulevard with a four-goal blitz in the second half with the goals coming after both teams seldom displayed any scoring potential during the first period. But the lanky defender broke the deadlock after 50 minutes with a smartly headed corner and then added his second near the end to take the sting out of a mediocre Boulevard side that struggled when they ventured forward. Aquino Grant also chipped in with two strikes. The opening half was uninspiring with the match needing something to bring it alive as both teams were guilty of having decent approach work peter out with misdirected passing as they reached the penalty areas.PHC’s first assault on goal came after 18 minutes when Richardson headed a Cecoy Robinson free kick just over the bar from close range.A jaded Boulevard responded after 32 minutes when Raymond Burgess powered a Takeyhi Walker corner just over from just inside the box. After a relatively quiet first half things did come alive in the second with PHC looking the more explosive side.Once the skipper put them ahead with his head Boulevard were forced to play catch-up football and at times looking strangely flat with no real finishing threat up front, with Richardson and his defenders soaking up whatever Boulevard’s attack could muster.Cecoy Robinson came close to adding a second after 57 minutes but his wicked 25 yarder sailed just over the bar.Boulevard proved they were not dead and buried when they gave PHC a scare after 65 minutes after right full-back Jahleel Crockwell dribbled from deep in his half before blasting a fierce shot from 30 yards that sailed inches over the bar.Grant then virtually secured the points for PHC when he scored from close range after a Tre Ming shot hit the post and rebounded for Grant to tap home after 86 minutes. Two minutes later young substitute Marico Warren created the cross that led to the third goal, crossing for his skipper to tap home from a few yards. And right at the end Grant himself got an easy tap in opportunity to make it 4-0.Boulevard: S Swan, J Crockwell, R Wilson, A Foggo, S Butterfield, R Burgess (D Smith, 61), N Smith, J Davis, T Stovell (S Furbert, 55), A Gibbons (D Butler, 88), T Walker.Subs not used: A Francis, Z Stovell.Yellow cards: A Gibbons, N SmithPHC: R Glasford, S Codrington, R Richardson, M Lambe, K Griffith, T Ming, C Robinson (B Bean 76), J Sealey (K Lambe, 76), C Robinson, A Grant, K Lightbourne (M Warren, 76)Subs not used: L Holder, S Philpott, T Hall, Q Burgess.Yellow cards: K Griffith, A Frant, M Lambe.Referee: E.HolmesMan of the match: R.Richardson (PHC).
