Bean: Goater masterminded title triumph

North Village’s Keishen Bean has credited the tactical nous and winning mentality of their coach Shaun Goater as the main reason they finished top of the table.Bean believes much of the Rams’ recent trophy success is down to the ‘Goater factor’ with the coach instilling a “never-say-die” attitude into the dressing room.He said: “I’m very proud of North Village. I believe we are the same flair team we have been in the past but Goater has brought a sense of ‘never quit’ mentality. It showed in the Dudley Eve final against Devonshire Cougars. Goater also knows how to change his tactics according to each game, sometimes you will see a player like Gumbo (Ralph Bean) or Jemeiko (Jennings) on the bench and wonder what’s going on but that’s all part of Goater’s tactics.”Bean has had to settle for a peripheral role this season because of his overseas studies but said he had been in touch with his team-mates since last Sunday’s title triumph at Police Field.“Unfortunately I wasn’t there to watch our team receive the title but I got the texts and calls from the boys,” said the forward. As a reward for winning the league Village have qualified for the CFU Club Championships, which is a mouth-watering prospect for Bean who is confident they will do Bermuda proud in next year’s competition.“The CFU Club Championships next year will be a great test of North Village’s quality. I’m very excited to have the chance to compete at the international level with Village and I’m confident that we will not disappoint our fans or Bermuda as a whole.”Bean, who attends Cape Breton University in Canada, has not yet made up his mind on whether to turn out for Bermuda Hogges or his former team Ottawa Fury in this summer’s Premier Development League (PDL).“I’m not totally sure about my summer plans. I’m looking to finish up in school pretty soon so I will decide on my future soon.” he said
