A potentially explosive encounter is in store when Southampton Rangers and St David’s clash in the T20 Premier Division Knockout Cup final at White Hill Field on Sunday (2.30pm).

Rangers are flying high after winning the Premier Division in their first season back in the top flight. Last Sunday, they defeated Somerset by 84 runs to progress to the final.

Onias Bascome, Delray Rawlins, captain Alex Dore, Dion Stovell, Jordan DeSilva and Allen Douglas Jr are some of the seasoned campaigners in Herbie Bascome’s side.

Nyrobi Carmichael has been outstanding with the ball this season, with the former Bermuda Under-19 bowler picking up four wickets in his team’s victory over Somerset.

St David’s held off strong competition from East End rivals St George’s, winning the semi-final encounter over last year’s knockout champions by seven runs.

Derrick Brangman was outstanding with ball in hand with five wickets at Lord’s.

The all-rounder will look to combine with his brother Ricardo, Dean Simons, Isaiah O’Brien, Brian Hall, Makai Young and Chare Smith in trying to deny Rangers more silverware this season.

“We were looking to go through to the final and give Southampton Rangers a run for their money,” Brangman said after the victory on Sunday.

Before the T20 Knockout Cup final, some of the players will be in action when Devonshire Rec face North Village in a Central Counties contest at Devonshire Rec on Saturday (11am).

North Village will be led by Bermuda captain Terryn Fray, with two of his Bailey’s Bay team-mates, Kyle Hodsoll and Rodney Trott also in the side.

Bay coach Irving Romaine will roll back the years, while the presence of Jonté Smith, guest players, Young and Dominik Samuels, a former West Indies junior player, will strengthen Village.

Detre Bell, the Village football captain, plays for the club’s Evening League side.

Andrew Griffith, the Village coach, is delighted to field a strong team in the 50-over showdown.

“North Village is predominantly a football club, so most of the guys that play cricket go and play for other clubs during the cricket season,” Griffith said.

“But in years past, for whatever reason or the other, we haven’t had all of them available. Our team is predominantly made up of those players, so we’ll only use three from our Evening League team.

“All these guys play football for the club or are members in some capacity. The only guest players we have are Makai Young and Dominik Samuels, whose father Raymond Samuels plays for our team.

Devonshire Rec will be bolstered by guest players, Kamau Leverock, Rawlins, Onias Bascome, Zeko Burgess and Ricardo Brangman Jr.

Drewonde Bascome, the St George’s football coach, and Devonshire Colts midfielder Jahzardae Samuels are also part of the Devonshire Rec side.

Derek Dechabert, the Devonshire Rec coach, is backing his team to defend the title they won last year.

“We’re looking to start the day as champions and end the day as champions,” Dechabert said.

“We’re carrying a few of our batsmen and a few of our bowlers with us. That goes with the experience and the competitiveness of the guests.

“Some of the guests have played with us before and are from the club itself. For them to get integrated into the team is going to be fairly straightforward.

“Players like Onias, Ricardo and Kamau have previously played with us. It’s just a matter of these guys going out there and putting their best foot forward on the day.

“With the team that Village has, it looks like it's a team that will be competitive. I personally feel that it can go either way.

“But for us, we need to get on top early and not let them have any avenues in which they can try to gain the upper hand.”

With Western Stars having withdrawn their team from senior league cricket this season, while Tuff Dogs have not assembled a side, this will be the only match in the Central Counties this year.
