A trio of the Bermuda Brazilian Football School (BBFS) coaches will attend Coerver Basic Diploma course in Toronto this weekend, as they look to continue their coaching training.Jermaine Smith, Jenay Edness, and Jaylen Bean will travel to Canada to take part in the weekend course.BBFS CEO, Cal Blankendal, believes the trio will gain valuable knowledge for the future with the school looking to get females involed in the coaching process.“One important item is that we are serious about advancing the coaching opportunities for our female coaches,” said Blankendal. “Jenay is a college student at Holland College and a Bermuda national team player.“Jaylen attends Cedar Bridge Academy and also plays in the national programme.“We at BBFS have a development programme where our players transition into coaching once they reach the age of 15 along with continuing their player development.“We believe that females need to be coached by females and our objective is to offer them the opportunity to learn and then showcase their newly acquired skill sets. We are also looking to bolster our female membership.”The coaching diploma course is due to the BBFS’s partnership with Brett Mosen, who was also involved in the BBFS college showcase last month on the Island, a relationship Blankendal and president Dennis Brown are pleased with.The course will be the first of its kind for Coerver.Blankendal will also be making the trek to Canada to further strengthen the ties forged between the BBFS and their partners.“Dennis is unavailable to make the trip due to work commitments and Naquan Smith, one of our students at Berkeley, will be sitting his GCSE’s this weekend so he won’t be making the trip either, but we wish him well,” he said.“I will also be taking the course and will be in Toronto to further the international relations for BBFS and to develop new business.“Jermaine, Brown’s assistant, will be charged with training the other coaching members upon his return from the Coever course.”The course includes classroom and on field sessions both days while planners, free dvd’s and other items are also to be given out for the course.
