Boulevard pull off surprise win

Boulevard Blazers pulled off the day's biggest upset when they came away with a hard fought win against Hornets at St John's Field. An Ajani Gibbons penalty and additional strikes from Dun-Ya Taylor and Melchisedec Gibbons earned Blazers maximum points and, perhaps more importantly, gave the team a much needed confidence boost after suffering a mass exodus of players during the off-season.Town, who paid the price for squandering a host of scoring chances, including a penalty, replied through a Heys Wolfe brace. The home side enjoyed the lion's share of possession but missed a golden opportunity to put their noses in front when Fabian Frankson failed to convert from the penalty spot midway through the first half.It was Blazers who eventually took the lead through Ajani Gibbons' well-taken spot kick. But Hornets were back on even terms after Wolfe's right-footed effort from outside of the 18-yard box found its intended target.Even though they were forced to defend for long spells as Hornets piled on the pressure Blazers always looked threatening on the break and with some help from Town ‘keeper Daniel Johnson regained the lead against the run of play.Johnson had no one else to blame but himself as he allowed Taylor's effort on goal to slip through his hands. But again Blazers' joy was short-lived as Wolfe finished with aplomb after the visitors were dispossessed deep in their own half. With the game hanging in the balance Town continued to create scoring opportunities and could've easily gone ahead had Wolfe and Dashun Butterfield done better in front of goal. The pair's misses ultimately came back to haunt as the wiry Melchisedec Gibbons leapt above the Hornets' defence to nod home Ajani Gibbons' diagonal free-kick for the game winner.
