Late victory can kick-start season, says Bean

Bermuda Hogges midfielder Keishen Bean believes the team will go from strength to strenth after winning their first game of the season.Hogges surrendered a two-goal lead against Brooklyn Knights in New York on Tuesday night but grabbed a late winner thanks to a strike from Jahron Dickinson.Goals either side of half-time by Domico Coddington and Bean gave Hogges a 2-0 lead at the interval but they were pegged back with Stefan Dimitrov and Kevin Correa scoring for Knights. It seemed as though Hogges would have to settle for their third draw in four games before Dickinson sealed the victory five minutes from time.Bean, who scored in his second successive game since joining up with the squad, has urged his team-mates to build on their morale-boosting win when they take on Long Island Rough Riders tonight.“We played great as a team, the first win of the season is always a good thing but we have no time to celebrate or relax because we have an even more important game tomorrow that can put us in fourth place with a game in hand,” said Bean, who was Hogges top scorer last season with eight goals.“We are in good spirits and now have the belief instilled in us from Maurice.”Bean said Hogges could take heart from the way they scrapped their way to victory having thrown away a two-goal lead.“With ten minutes left there were nerves but we went all out attack in search of those three points and I have to praise Jahron Dickinson for finishing off a great passing move we put together,” he said.“Playing away from home feels like we are against the world because we get very few calls but we have adapted to it and are now scoring goals to keep the game out of the hands of the referee.”Hogges were propping up the Mid-Atlantic Division with just two points from three matches but Tuesday’s win has lifted them to seventh in the standings.Maurice Lowe’s side complete their 12 day road trip to the East Coast with a double header against New Jersey Express on Saturday and next Monday.Bermuda Hogges: T Bell, S Darrell, J Bather, R Lee, D Cox, K Bean (S Smith, 89), J Swan, T Tucker, D Coddington, D Ming (Z Lewis, 83), A Simmons (J Dickinson, 73)Substitutes not used: T Hall, L Dill, R DeShieldsGoals: Coddington, 42, Bean, 55, Dickinson, 85Yellow cards: Ming, Simmons, TuckerBrooklyn Knights: L Fedler, D Reid (K Rumph, 70), K Schlesinger (A Berenzon, 70), M Valencia, Z Gosse, B Knibbs, K McTurk, R Abreu (K Correa, 63), J Batista, S Dimitrov, S ManzSubstitutes not used: E Qoku, T Adair, K Jecewitz, E ShoneGoals: Dimitrov, 58, Correa 79Yellow cards: L Schlesinger, Gosse, CorreaReferee: H Aguilar
