Bermuda Hogges 1 Ocean City 2Errors in both boxes proved to be Bermuda Hogges’ downfall as they slumped to their fourth successive defeat at the hands of Ocean City last night.Returning to BAA Field for the first time in five games following a gruelling 12-day road trip, Hogges had hoped a change of scenery would coincide with a change of fortunes. It was a case of different venue same old story, however, with sloppy mistakes and bad decisions at both ends of the pitch undoing Hogges’ hard work.Hogges coach Maurice Lowe admitted his team were becoming architects of their own downfall far too often.“It’s very frustrating for us at the moment because the players are working their socks but seeing little reward for their effort and endeavour,” he bemoaned.“Unfortunately we’re still making sloppy mistakes in defence and struggling in front of goal and that’s costing us games.“We have to believe that as long as we keep on putting in the hard work the results will come for us, though.”Hogges found themselves in the lead on 20 minutes when fit-again skipper Antwan Russell fired low past City goalkeeper John McCarthy after being picked out on the edge of the box by Roger Lee. Teenage winger Zeiko Lewis then almost doubled Hogges’ lead but his effort was blocked en route to the net by Nicholas Bibb. With Hogges seeming set to enter the interval with a one-goal lead, a collective lapse of defensive concentration gave City an all-to-easy route back into the contest.Making amends for missing a good chance earlier, City’s Alec Golina pounced on a loose ball after Tahj Bell had blocked an effort from City striker Markhus Lacroix, who had got in behind Hogges’ defence all too easily. On 65 minutes Hogges found themselves behind when Golina capitilised on the hosts’ inability to clear their lines, sweeping the ball home past a stranded Bell.In fairness to Hogges, they poured forward in pursuit of an equaliser and it almost came when Tyrell Burgess headed over from close range after McCarthy had parried a powerful drive by substitute Seion Darrell.Burgess, who switched from right back to centre forward in the final minutes, had another opportunity to level but prodded a difficult chance against the bar after good work down the left wing by Lashun Dill.Hogges will look to end their losing streak when they take in Central Jersey at BAA Field tomorrow.
