North Village through to Dudley Eve semi-final

PHC 1North Village 2Corey Boyce paved North Village’s path through to the semi finals of the Dudley Eve with their winner takes all win over PHC at Devonshire Rec.Boyces’ goal in the 66th minute proved to be the winner after Pierre Smith’s 57th minute strike cancelled out Ayshaun Smith’s opener for PHC in the 49th, thus sending the city side through to the next round.“It is a definite morale booster, but more importantly we are through to the next round and we can sort out ourselves then in terms of how we will approach the game,” said Rams skipper Keishen Bean.“Regardless of the games we have lost we have played well in all of them, but for now we are through and that’s a big victory.Village could have taken advantage of the table as they were ahead on goal difference, having lost 3-2 to Somerset while PHC lost 4-1 to the Trojans, which meant a draw would have been enough to take Village through to the last four. But the group was turned on its head several times and both sides traded blows throughout the second half that were unexpected after an unspectacular first stanza of play.At the end only team will seen a potential light at the end of the tunnel, while the other will have ample time to focus on more important matters.Zebras were put ahead when youngster Smith was put in by a good ball down the left that found him for a neat finish from eight yards. The lead would last only eight minutes when Ralph Bean started flexing his muscles in the midfield and found an onrushing Boyce who cut back for Smith to casually slide home after shielding defenders to get the final touch on the ball.Boyce’s most telling touch would be his rocket of a shot from ten yards when the Zebras defence failed to clear, and the industrious striker was dually rewarded for his efforts through the match for what proved to be the winner.“The league game against St George’s was a morale booster in the sense that we were coming into this game on the back of a win rather then a loss, and that match set the tone for how we came out to win this,” said Bean.“You can never count us out, we lost our initial game in trying to figure out a few things but in the end our team as a whole won’t allow one match to define us.”PHC: T Hall, M Waldron, K Lambe, A Smith, S Smith, C Robinson, R Richardson, T Place, J Sealy, M Lambe, C RobinsonSubs not used: M Simmons, T Brown, K Griffith, A Grant, D RobinsonGoals: A Smith, 49North Village: D Adams, P Castle, K Talbot, J Davis, C Boyce, T Watson, K Dill, P Smith, R Bean, J Jennings (M Swan, 46) K Bean (D Hunt, 80)Subs not used: R Dublin, K Knights, W Ming, S JenningsGoals: P Smith, 57, C Boyce, 66Yellow: P SmithReferee: S AllenMan of the Match: C Boyce (Village).Dandy Town 2 St. George’s 2Battling St. George’s came from two goals down to earn a draw after both teams had already booked their spots in the semi-finals from Group A.Town opened the scoring after ten minutes when a through ball split the St. Georgge’s defence and Angelo Simmons kept his cool to lob the ‘keeper Zeko Burgess who was off his line. Both teams missed chances, including Simmons when with just the keeper to beat, before Town were finally rewarded for their dominance with a second goal on 33 minutes when Daeshun Butterfield scored from the rebound after Kyle Webb’s ball into the box came back off the far post.St. George’s should have been four or five goals down by the time they pulled their first goal back in the 42nd minute through a composed finish from Jarizinho Bassett that found the roof of the net. The second half was more even as St. George’s created good chances but were let down by poor finishing.St. George’s were claiming a goal in the 86th minute when a header from Philip Anderson was cleared off the line - Douglas was booked for comments he made to the linesman - but Douglas would have the last laugh two minutes later when he scored with a low shot inside the far post to deny Town victory.Dandy Town: D.Johnson; K.Wade, K.Lathan, A.Lowe, F.Frankson, L.Tucker, D.Ming, D.Butterfield (S.Tuzo 65min), A.Simmons (R.Wells 70min), A.Grant (L.Simmons 81min).
