Village cruise past Rangers

North Village 3

Southampton Rangers 1

North Village continued their unbeaten run in the second half of the season with a comfortable win over Southampton Rangers at Bernard Park yesterday.

In chilly conditions, it would be Village who wrapped up all three points courtesy of goals from Khomeini Talbot, Keishen Bean, and Jemeiko Jennings.

Rangers scored through Vernon Perinchief jr.

With the win, the Rams have taken seven points from three games since the turn of the year, with their consistent play encouraging for coach Ralph Bean.

“It is a good result overall, we played well and showed heart and that’s what I asked for in these conditions,” said the boss. “Our biggest problem has been finishing this season so to see the side put their chances away today was pleasing to see.

“The league title push may be on, but we need to just do our job which is to win games and let the rest take care of itself.”

Talbot scored the first goal of the day in the 15th minute when he was the first to react to a ball played into the area that Rangers weren’t able to deal with.

Bean then doubled the lead in the 35th a strike that would ultimately prove to be the winner, after being set up by skipper Jennings, beating Sean Perinchief in goal for the visitors.

Jennings then got in on the scoring act in the 55th minute, with a late run deep into Rangers territory that saw him make no mistake with his effort.

Perinchief got his side on the scoresheet with a powerful header late on, and they were then awarded a penalty moments later.

Marvin Belboda was brought down in the area, with referee Kuhn Edwards pointing to the spot, but Dennis Russell smashed his effort against the crossbar.

Somerset Trojans 3

St George’s 2

Tahj Wade scored a brace as Somerset Trojans held off St George’s at Somerset Cricket Club yesterday.

Wade opened the scoring for the hosts, but the lead wouldn’t last as Jarreau Hayward would grab the leveller shortly after.

Tyrell Burgess put Trojans ahead again, and Wade grabbed his second to make sure the points were safe.

Mitchell Tucker pulled the East Enders close again, but it was too little too late.
