Bermuda Hogges has come to the financial aid of cash-strapped Boulevard Community Club.Last week The Royal Gazette revealed that the Pembroke club had been stripped of its privilege to play their home league matches at Bermuda Athletic Association’s Goose Gosling Field after falling behind in payments for use of the synthetic pitch.Boulevard president Lou Matthews later acknowledged that his club had fallen on rough times financially but vowed that they would live up to their financial obligations. To help Blazers get through this trying period the Hogges owner Paul Scope made an undisclosed donation in support of the club’s “commitment to the development of football” in the central Pembroke community.“On behalf of the directors of the Bermuda Hogges we wish to assist Boulevard Community Club in completing their current season,” said Hogges owner Paul Scope in a written statement. “We believe in and support their stance of establishing a platform for right minded young players who make responsible decisions and who can also contribute to a long-standing community club such as Boulevard CC.“Bermuda Hogges have always worked with the clubs that form the Bermuda Football Association and continue to select players from a wide variety of clubs including Boulevard CC. Players such as Takeyhi Walker and Quadir Maynard have given valuable service to the Hogges whilst being Boulevard players.”Scope declined to reveal the amount of money that was donated to Boulevard on the Hogges’ behalf.Blazers president Matthews graciously thanked Scope and the Hogges organisation for their kind act in the current challenging economic climate.“This donation from the directors of the Hogges is a refreshing shot in the arm for the club and affirmation that we are slowly but surely moving in the right direction in refocusing on our community and the young men we impact,” he added. “We will utilise the funds to support the finish of our campaign this year and the development of the young people.“In recent weeks we have seen individuals like Paul Scope reach out in genuine partnership and support. We are grateful and will continue to forge ahead with the greater support of football and the community.“We wish to encourage all of our players, supporters and the Central Pembroke community as we work to strengthen and support each other.”It emerged earlier this week that Boulevard had agreed to pay BAA $400 per game for use of their pitch. The club is presently playing their home league fixtures at Bernard Park which is shared by North Village Rams and Young Men’s Social Club.
