Girls’ festival a success, says Blankendal
The festival, in partnership with PartnerRe and the Argus Group, finished on Sunday at the National Sports Centre and saw three teams from North America play local opposition.
Local teams playing the event included Bermuda’s Brazilian Football School Under-14s and the Bermuda Football Association’s Under-15s, Under-17s, Under-20s and senior women’s national team.
Reflecting on the weekend’s festivities, Blankendal said: “For the first year it was very good and the play of all teams was at a top level which gave the local girls a chance to showcase their skills as well as gain valuable experience of playing against foreign opposition.
“It is vital to get the young players this experience for the future and give them a sense of where they are compared to their overseas counterparts.
“Women’s football won at the end of the day and we will certainly look to continue this going forward.”
The festival gave the local girls a chance to showcase their skills in front of overseas coaches, while providing the senior women’s national team with some much-needed preparation for the Island Games.
The BBFS’ fifth year anniversary celebrations continue this week with their Easter camp currently being held at Goose Gosling Field, that also includes females.
