Flanagan’s keep pressure on Eagles
Flanagan’s Onions and Somerset Eagles maintained their promotion push in the First Division with wins over St George’s and Ireland Rangers.
Onions edged St George’s 2-1 in a close match on Saturday evening at Goose Gosling Field where they netted twice in the first half. Michael Lindsay-Bailey put Onions in front in the thirteenth minute with a near post header from a free kick.
Treshun Smith doubled the Onions lead when he scored with a shot into the bottom corner in the 33rd minute after Kyle Denbrook had been robbed of possession midway in the St George’s half.
However, the East Enders came charging back in the second half and their increased pressure finally paid off in the 73rd minute when Mitchell Tucker pulled a goal back. Soon after St George’s breathed a sigh of relief after a high ball into the box hit the crossbar as Onions hung on to their narrow lead. The win moves them on to 20 points.
Eagles joined Onions on 20 points after they defeated Ireland Rangers 4-2 at White Hill Field yesterday where Nathan Rego scored twice and Jordan Saltus and Rashaun Seaman also found the net for Eagles who led 2-1 at the half. Eagles remain on top on goal difference.
St David’s dropped out of the three-way tie for first place when they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to BAA who took the lead early in the first half through Willie Clemons.
St David’s equalised midway through the second half. Improving X-Roads Warriors drew 2-2 with Young Men’s Social Club at Garrison Field.
