Relegation-threatened Hamilton Parish and Somerset Trojans both blew the chance to snatch a vital win at Wellington Oval as Parish were left anchored at the bottom and staring relegation in the face.

The bottom five teams all drew yesterday, leaving the positions unchanged as Parish remain seven points from safety and with only three matches left now to pull off the great escape.

A chance to snatch victory fell to Akeem Albouy in the closing moments when he raced through on the left side of the box but shot wide with his favoured right foot with only Shaquille Bean, the Trojans goalkeeper, to beat.

Parish went behind in the 71st minute when Leo Burgess converted from the penalty spot after Johnny Bean was brought down by Nigel Burgess, the Parish goalkeeper, near the edge of the box.

Parish responded quickly when Donovan Thompson slotted past Bean from close range after a ball into the box from a free kick deep on the left set him up.

“We’ll just keep working hard,” said Phillip Burgess, the Parish coach after another missed opportunity to close the gap on the teams above them.

Burgess’s side are without a win since beating Devonshire Colts on January 10.

Parish went close to snatching the winner, however, in the 88th minute when Thompson’s low shot was saved by Bean with his legs as the home team pressed hard for a late winner.

Parish created the better of the first half chances with Isaiah Creighton blasting over the bar in the opening fifteen minutes after trading passes with striker Patrick Richardson on the edge of the box.

Then Thompson, always a threat when running at the Somerset defence, blasted inches over the crossbar from 25 yards as Parish created another good chance despite being down to ten men, with Creighton off the field receiving treatment to a cut below his left eye.

Creighton was replaced by Shakeem Albouy at the start of the second half.

Tempers flared midway through the half when Jameko Harvey-Outerbridge, the Trojans full back, floored youngster Darius Tucker with a bad tackle right in front of the two benches, receiving only a yellow card which angered Parish.

Harvey-Outerbridge was replaced a minute later.

Somerset went close to scoring twice before the break when Dion Stovell’s effort was blocked at the near post by Burgess. Then Leo Burgess intercepted a pass from Tucker, raced into the box with Tucker in pursuit before hitting a curling shot past the far post.

The visitors carried that momentum into the second half as they began to look threatening soon after the restart with a couple of good chances. Tahj Wade went close for the visitors when his shot from an angle inside the box smashed against the inside of the far post before coming back out.

Immediately after Hamilton Parish went upfield in a quick counter-attack, but Thompson had a weak effort easily saved by Bean.

• Devonshire Colts picked up a vital point in their battle for survival when they drew 3-3 with PHC at PHC Field. Zuri Darrell put Colts ahead in the sixteenth minute before PHC equalised three minutes later through Jahnai Raynor.

Cecoy Robinson, the PHC captain, put his side in front from the penalty spot after a foul on Shakir Smith.

However, Robinson received a red card after taking the ball out of the net and responding with an elbow to the chest of Ryan Purnell, who tried to take the ball out of his hands.

Lozendro Symonds, the Colts captain, pulled his team back level at 2-2 three minutes before the break.

Two late goals completed a high-scoring, entertaining match, with Shakir Smith making it 3-2 to PHC in the 75th minute, and Quinn Simmons earning a point for Colts with a goal in the 82nd minute.
