Smith edges Village into last eight

Pierre Smith’s second-half winner sent Premier Division side North Village through to the quarter-finals with a 1-0 win over First Division Wolves at Bernard Park.

The Village forward curled in Keishen Bean’s pass to give the home side the lead.

John Barry Nusum, the former Bermuda striker, went close to grabbing a late equaliser when he dragged wide with only goalkeeper Tahj Bell to beat.

But Village held on with Smith’s early second-half strike proving to be the difference.

Wolves played the final seven minutes plus stoppage time with ten men after Sergio Richardson was booked twice inside of a minute.

Richardson was initially booked for tugging on an opponent’s jersey and then shown a red card seconds later for removing his own jersey.

The scoreline did Village’s performance no justice as they controlled proceedings throughout. Wolves had goalkeeper Jahhi Shakir to thank for limiting Village to one goal as he made a string of brilliant saves to frustrate the home side before Smith finally made the breakthrough.
