Bascome moves to BAA from Hornets

New challenge: Bascome will be looking to help BAA achieve promotion

Dandy Town Hornets have lost the services of Drewonde Bascome, who has left with the Premier Division club on a late transfer.

The Bermuda midfielder has joined father Andrew Bascome at First Division side BAA, who suffered their first defeat of the season against Paget Lions at Goose Gosling Field on Sunday.

“Drewonde has transferred to BAA,” Angelo Simmons, the Town captain, confirmed when asked about Bascome’s whereabouts.

Bascome is not eligible to play for his new club until the late transfer period opens on November 15.

Incidentally, the player joined Town from Devonshire Cougars on a late transfer during the 2015-16 campaign.

Bascome has also had stints at Boulevard and Robin Hood.

His father, a former Bermuda and Dandy Town coach, is assisting coaching duties with promotion-chasing BAA.

Bascome is one of two players absent from Town’s midfield, as Tomiko Goater is studying overseas.

“Tomiko Goater is away in school and will be back in November,” Simmons added.

Town picked up their fourth point of the season after being held to a 1-1 draw at home to North Village at St John’s Field on Sunday.

The home side dominated the game but were unable to capitalise on a plethora of opportunities and also hit the woodwork.

Kwame Steede, the Town player-coach, was forced to make two changes to the team that beat Somerset Trojans 2-0 at Somerset Cricket Club in their previous outing to record their first win of the season.

Jaiden Manders replaced goalkeeper Troy Hall while striker Ian Coke came in for Bermuda Under-20 forward Oneko Lowe.

“Troy is overseas right now on a vacation while Oneko was out due to illness,” Simmons said. “I thank the guys that came in because they did a wonderful job.”
