Thompson hits four as St George’s beat Kings
St George’s needed extra time to see off plucky Corona League side Footy Kings 4-1 in a thrilling FA Cup preliminary round contest at Wellington Oval.
The teams were deadlocked at 1-1 at the end of regulation after St George’s striker Donavan Thompson cancelled out Aquino Grant’s strike that put underdogs Footy Kings, one of three Corona League teams making their debut in the competition this year, ahead.
However, Thompson shifted into overdrive in extra time, banging in three further goals and the hosts fought back as fatigue took its toll on the weary legs of the Footy Kings players.
• Wolves beat First Division rivals Hamilton Parish 2-0 at Devonshire Recreation Club to secure their place in the next round.
After a goalless first half, Wolves midfielder Mekeal Ming broke the deadlock around the hour mark before striker Sergio Richardson added another near the end.
The scoreline flattered to deceive as a totally dominant Wolves squandered numerous opportunities and struck the woodwork on several occasions.
• St David’s Warriors tamed Tuff Dogs with a 3-0 victory over their Corona League opponents at Lord’s.
Jamal Woodley scored twice while Diego McCallan added a late insurance strike.
Tuff Dogs did well to get to the half without conceding but were unable to contain their hosts in the second half.
Woodley put Warriors ahead with a spectacular volley from 20 yards around the 70th minute.
Things then went from bad to worst for Tuff Dogs, who were reduced to ten men after Mackie Crane was sent off.
Warriors cashed in on their numerical advantage shortly after when Woodley doubled his team’s advantage with a neat finish inside of the area to cap off a good build-up.
McCallan then made sure there was no way back for Tuff Dogs when he cut in from the left and curled a shot in off the post shortly before the final whistle.
