Clubs stay quiet on Wolves’ move

Officials from Devonshire Recreation Club and Wolves both declined to offer an explanation as to why the latter team’s previous two home matches were moved from Devonshire Rec to Lord’s.

Nadine Henry, the Devonshire Recreation Club president, and her Wolves counterpart, Antoine Minors, would not budge on the matter when approached by The Royal Gazette yesterday.

“Devonshire Recreation Club has no official comment,” was all Henry was prepared to say.

Wolves president Minors said: “I don’t have anything to say at the moment.

“It’s just a couple of things that have to be sorted but I can’t comment otherwise.”

Asked is there a possibility that his team could have their home matches played at Devonshire Rec again by the end of the season, Minors said: “At the moment I can’t confirm that either.”

Attempts to have the Bermuda Football Association weigh in on the matter was also futile with both president Mark Wade and League and Cup competitions chairman Shannon Burgess unavailable for comment.

Wolves’s First Division matches with St David’s and Paget on February 11 and 25 were moved from Devonshire Rec to Lord’s for unknown reasons.

The last time that Wolves played at Devonshire Rec was on January 21 in a league match against Devonshire Colts that was abandoned in the 75th minute after a fight broke out between players from both teams.

Colts were leading 3-0 at the time after Teneko Eve scored twice and Cameron Coffey added another goal.

“The BFA is reviewing the reports from the referees and match commissioner and other relevant persons before taking any additional actions against any offending players,” the BFA told The Royal Gazette in a statement last month.

It remains unclear whether the game will be replayed or if any disciplinary action has been imposed on any of the players involved in the mêlée.
