Nathan Trott, the West Ham United Under-23 goalkeeper, produced another flawless display in his team’s 1-0 victory away to Manchester City in the Premier League 2 on Thursday.

The Bermudian produced a string of saves either side of Marcus Browne’s 34th minute winner from a 25-yard free kick at City’s Academy Stadium on the way to a clean sheet.

“I was really proud of my performance,” Trott told West Ham’s official website. “This is what goalkeepers are supposed to do you know; you’re supposed to make these big saves in these big games, and I think in the season where we are now and where we want to be.

“Three points was really important, so I was really pleased I could help the team out today.”

Trott hailed his fellow team-mates for their hard work ethic and for sticking to the game plan.

“I think everyone before the game, we had a game plan that we stuck to and I think that everyone kind of put 100 per cent effort into the game,” he said. “It worked out at the end.

“In that game you have to take your opportunities and we took our one opportunity. We had more and we could have scored more, but we’ll take the goal and we defended really well throughout the whole game.”

As for captain Browne’s stunning free-kick, Trott said: “Browney works on his free-kicks in training and I think that it came on the perfect day. That’s probably what got us the result today.

“The whole team are really close in training so when it comes in matches and we work together like that, it’s nothing strange and we know it’s going to happen. We have a game plan and it really worked out today.”

Trott and his team-mates are seventh in the Premier League 2 standings, a point adrift of sixth-placed Everton who they face on Monday at Southport FC, in what will be their second straight match on the road.

“It’s another tough game at Everton,” Trott said. “We know that Everton are a really great team and I think it will be another tough 90 minutes.

“Everyone needs to be prepared, get rested and get ready to go again.”

Last month saw the former BAA player keep a fourth successive clean sheet in as many appearances for the England Under-20 national squad, who beat Poland 1-0 in Bielsku-Bialej and Portugal 3-0 at City’s Academy Stadium during the international break.
