Smith on target as Lewes earn replay

Jonté Smith netted his fifth goal of the season in Lewes' 1-1 draw away to Kings Langley at Gayward Park in an FA Cup second qualifying round fixture on Saturday.

The Bermuda striker opened the scoring in the 39th minute to give Lewes the lead at the half.

However, Kings Langley hit back near the hour mark through a goal from Roy Syla to send the cup-tie to a replay.

“It was a competitive game, as you would expect any FA Cup game to be, and both teams had opportunities to score,” Smith told The Royal Gazette.

“Not our best performance as a team, but we showed a resilience to do whatever it took to stay in the competition and came away with a 1-1 draw while under quite a lot of pressure in the final ten minutes.”

The replay will be on Wednesday at The Dripping Pan.

“On Wednesday we will play the replay at home where we back ourselves 100% to get the result that we want,” Smith said.

The replay is Lewes's second straight in the prestigious competition. They prevailed against Farnborough in a penalty shoot-out win at home in the first qualifying round replay this month, with Smith opening the scoring in the 37th minute before the visiting side hit back through Connor Calcutt in the 69th minute to send the tie to extra time.

Lewes won the shoot-out 4-1, with Smith among the scorers.

In the Sky Bet Championship, Queens Park Rangers' run of victories came to a halt when they were beaten 1-0 at home by Norwich City.

It was the first loss QPR have suffered since Nahki Wells joined them on a season-long loan from Burnley.

Wells, who has yet to score for his new club in four appearances, had only one half-chance in the match — a half-hit shot that caused the goalkeeper few problems.

QPR remain in sixteenth position on ten points, four clear of the relegation zone.

In League Two, Reggie Lambe's Cambridge United scored in the final two minutes to salvage a 1-1 draw at home to Mansfield Town, one of the Bermuda captain's former clubs.

Cambridge lie nineteenth on eight points, five clear of the danger zone.

Elsewhere in Finland, William White, who plays for Narpes Kraft, netted his first goal as a professional in a 3-1 home win over PK-37 in the Kakkonen Group C yesterday.

The Bermuda player scored his team's second goal in the 53rd minute with a header from a corner.

“First professional goal today,” an elated White tweeted.

Narpes Kraft snapped a four-game losing streak with the win.
