Jonté Smith says he and his Woking team-mates will be up for the challenge in their Buildbase FA Trophy quarter-final clash at home to Torquay United this month.

Woking will host the Vanarama National League leaders at Laithwaite Community Stadium on February 27 after the sides were pitted together at the draw yesterday for the last eight in the competition.

“We are all looking forward to the next round where we’re hoping to put in a better performance to keep progressing,” Smith told The Royal Gazette.

The cup-tie will be the clubs’ second meeting in a fortnight, as Woking will also host Torquay in the league on Saturday.

Woking advanced to the last eight of the FA Trophy for the first time in five years courtesy of a 1-0 win away to high-flying Sutton United at Gander Green Lane at the weekend.

Winger Malachi Napa, on loan from Sky Bet League One side Oxford United, scored the winner with a spectacular bicycle kick in first-half stoppage time.

“Everyone was pleased with the result,” added Smith, who came on as an 84th-minute substitute. “It was a hard-working team performance and we got what we deserved in the end.”

Woking turn their attention to improving their league placing of sixteenth today when they again face Sutton away from home. Sutton are second, nine points adrift of Torquay.

“It’s an unusual situation but it gives us an opportunity to show consistency,” Smith said. “Playing the same team twice so soon, and the same will go for Torquay.”
