Zeiko Lewis confident Charlotte Battery can bounce back

Zeiko Lewis

Zeiko Lewis and his Charleston Battery team-mates will be keen to get back to winning ways when they host Eastern Conference Atlantic Division leaders Pittsburgh Riverhounds at Patriots Point in the USL Championship tonight.

Charleston’s three-game win streak came to a grinding halt in a 3-2 defeat away to Miami last Sunday, with Lewis getting his name on the scoresheet.

“It was a tough game, but we will bounce back,” the Bermudian forward told his club’s website.

“We’ve played a lot of games in a short period of time. Two back-to-back turf fields away is tough, but we move on to the next one.

“We grow and bounce back, getting ready to play at home Friday.”

Pittsburgh have a three-point lead at the top of the standings over nearest rivals Tampa Bay Rowdies and have won their last three matches.

Charleston are fifth, three points adrift of the play-off.

Lewis and his team-mates made a promising start in their previous outing against Miami.

They led 2-0 on tallies from Nicque Daley and Lewis before their hosts replied with three unanswered goals from Ariel Martinez, Christiano François and Billy Forbes to complete an impressive come-from-behind win.

Charleston gained a numerical advantage in the 70th minute after Miami’s Robert Baggio was sent off for violent conduct.

However, they were unable to capitalise even after Forbes put the home side ahead for the first time in the 78th minute from a free kick that ultimately proved to be the winner.
