Butterfield wins in Abu Dhabi

Nikki Butterfield won her first major professional race at the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon last weekend.

Butterfield, the wife of Bermudian triathlete Tyler, recently returned to triathlon after four years as a professional cyclist and was tipped to be a favourite in the event.

“I decided to sit back and check out how everyone else was riding,” she said. “My biggest concern was Melissa (Rollinson). The other girls are all good runners but I was hoping if we all rode the same pace, I would come off the bike with fresher legs and be able to pull ahead on the run, but Melissa is a world class runner I really didn’t want to go head-to-head with her.”

Butterfield, who won by a two-minute margin, has appeared alongside her husband on the cover of US Triathlete Magazine’s April edition as part of the article ‘Pros and Parenthood’.

She will also grace the cover of Australian Triathlete’s April issue following her performance in Abu Dhabi, along with the biannual Pink Edition of Australian Triathlete, to be released this month.
