Seventh finish boost for Butterfield

Tyler Butterfield boosted his chances of making the Olympic Games this summer when he finished seventh at the Ishigaki ITU Triathlon World Cup race over the weekend.

Butterfield, who needs to finish strongly in his final competitions before the Games, came seventh in less than 30 seconds behind eventual winner David Hauss of France.

The 28-year-old bolstered his confidence ahead of his latest race with a 20th finish at the Mooloolaba International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Cup triathlon in Australia.

Over the next two months he will compete in Australia, Mexico, San Diego and Spain in an attempt to secure a spot in London.

The former Saltus student came out of the water in 17 minutes, 37 seconds, while he completed the bike in one hour, 57 seconds.

He finished the run in 31 minutes, 18 seconds, with a total time of one, 50 minutes, 36 seconds.

Hauss (1:50:06) placed first, while Italy’s Davide Uccellari (1:50:10) and Argentina’s Gonzalo Raul Tellechea (1:50:19) rounded out the top three.

The seventh place finish earned Butterfield 313 points towards his Olympic total and moved him up 12 places to 84th spot.
