Mixed fortunes for Boyle pair

Bermuda’s Billy Boyle advanced to the next round of the JITIC 2013 tennis tournament in Dominican Republic while his cousin Courtland Boyle suffered defeat in the main draw. The first day of main draw arrived with a 90-minute rain delay but Billy Boyle put himself in a good position prior to the interruption and was leading Marco Moreira of Costa Rica 6-4, 6-5 before closing out the second set and the match 7-5.According to coach Jerome Bradshaw, the two players’ styles were a little different but it made for a good competitive match and once Boyle got the advantage in the Costa Rican’s service game, he made no mistake closing out the match to continue in the main draw.Courtland Boyle went down to Andrew Argenal of Honduras 6-4, 6-3.He started quickly, breaking the Honduran in the first game of the match, before the favour was returned in the next game. Boyle’s serve let him down and in the end the Honduran was a comfortable winner.Instead of joining the consolation group, the first round losers will have to play in their own draw.At the Club Claro venue, Nicholas Lines won his first consolation match when he beat Marco Moreira of Costa Rica 0-4, 4-1, 5-3.At 3-3 in the final set, Lines upped his game to break the Costa Rican and then serve out the match and continue his quest to win the consolation event.Due to the rain delay causing a back-up in matches, the doubles matches were postponed for the day. All three Bermuda players will continue on although in separate sections of the event.
