Marathoner inspired by Butterfield

Road runner Fraser Hunt said he was inspired by triathlete Tyler Butterfield as he finished with an impressive time of two hours, 48 minute, 35 seconds at yesterday's Chicago Marathon.

He placed 325th in a monster field of more than 40,000.

“I was definitely inspired by watching Ty Butterfield's amazing Ironman performance yesterday (Saturday),” said Hunt.

“When my legs started feeling it a bit around mile 21-22 I thought to myself . . . good thing I didn't have to swim 2.5 miles and bike 111 miles before this run.

“I just tried to suck it up and kept the legs turning over.”

Butterfield finished seventh in Saturday's Hawaii Ironman World Championships.

“The legs felt pretty good all day though mile 25 was a bit shaky before picking it up and going hard the last 1.2 miles,” added Hunt.

“My goal had been to run a 2:50 which I knew was ambitious given my first marathon in 2011 (NewYork) was a 3:02. I've worked really hard since March for this race and am very happy it all worked out today.

“I lucked out with perfect weather for Chicago as I have heard horror stories of extreme heat and cold here during this event in the past.”

Other Bermuda runners who competed included Jose Lopez (time 3:28:46; position 3,947), Marcello Ausenda (3:55:26; 10,276), Mark Outerbridge (4:18:49; 17,061), Angela Atherden (4:36:12; 22,056), Philip Faries (5:05:02: 29,047), and Esan Swan (5:39:56; 34,391).
