Stephen Allen and Ashley Estwanik were the male and female CrimeStoppers 5K winners yesterday in a race marred by an organisational blunder. It’s believed the course distance was measured wrongly with the race being around 400 metres longer than it should have been.It understood several runners were disappointed their finishing times had been distorted by the error.Allen was the first across the line in a time of 17 minutes, 49 seconds and 12 seconds ahead of Evan Naude (18:01) and more than one minute ahead of Jose Miranda (19:09).“It was a good race, I wanted to push myself from the beginning and see what I could do on the day, so I’m happy with the race and my time overall,” said Allen.Allen followed his win by serving as a referee’s assistant in the Premier Division football match between Hamilton Parish and Flanagan’s Onions at Wellington Oval.Estwanik was the seventh finisher overall in a time of 20 minutes, seven seconds, with Krista Dyer (22:38) coming in second and the 21st overall across the finish line.Defending May 24 champion, Rose-Anna Hoey, finished third in the female division and 24th overall in a time of 22 minutes, 53 seconds.“It wasn’t too bad out there for the most part, it was more about running my race more than focusing on who was around me,” said Estwanik.“It wasn’t so much about the win but rather gauging where I am right now and I’m happy with the run in general.”Jahkeylo Burgess and Mikaela Outerbridge won the Junior CrimeStoppers 1.5 mile boys and girls race.Burgess completed the 1.5 mile distance in a time of eight minutes, 57 seconds, while Ryan Outerbridge (8:58) finished second and Alex Pilgrim (9:02) finished third.Outerbridge crossed the line in nine minutes, 56 seconds, with Selah Tuzo finishing second in ten minutes, seven seconds.Rebecca Harrison (10:20) was the third girl across the line.
